@haraldschuster3067 - They cost £70 million - less than 1 middle of the road movie. I look at the Royal Family as entertainment & culture that a lot of people get pleasure from - FINE, let them enjoy it. I like art galleries - QUOTE "The government spends about 220 million pounds a year supporting museums and art galleries in the UK" And lets be real - they don't BURN that money, this is what people forget, like the £12 billion to refurbish the house of commons. That paid people's salaries, in the case of the refurb an entirely new generation of crafts people will be apprenticed on that project and have lives that support families as a result. We bought F-35's of the USA - that IS a total waste of money at £100 million EACH

@Ian_Carolan - Because over the last 40 years the HoL has pretty consistently voted the "right" way - in the interests of the country and the people. So on PAPER, I hate the idea. But in PRACTICE they are the single best thing we have in the UK government structure - and the hereditary peers vote even more consistently in the interests of the nation. Im an empiricist. Not a dogmatist and the HoL is empirically the best we have. FYI - Im not a big fan of democracy, certainly not in a country as badly educated as the UK. You cant let morons vote if they can swing elections as they will simply vote for the bigger liar as happened in the USA and the UK, cos they cant tell they are being lied to.
