@SonOfViking - I agree. I don't think Phil is ignorant of this, I believe he takes a pragmatic view of "lets not depress people, cos if people give up, there is no rejoining". Personally, I don't think England has any chance of rejoining. The other 3 nations will be welcomed independently.

@EllieD.Violet - Yes - I believe that is what I said. I added that IMO France will veto it.

@jounik - I don't really. It's a while since I travelled outside the country but our borders are really free-flowing, or they were before covid. You held your ID card / Passport up as you drove through. so It was totally possible to live in Bulgaria and work in Romania and be on time for work each day. I just googled it and saw this "Last month, the Dutch parliament adopted a resolution stating their opposition to Romania and Bulgaria. They said that corruption and organised crime in both countries poses a threat to the Netherlands and the Schengen area." IF THAT is the issue then there is no way on God's earth the Uk can ever rejoin cos the corruption and organised crime in the UK is FAR worse than it is here. YES when I moved here in 2009 it was bad, but in 2009 the NHS was a world-leading medical institution - the world has moved on a LOT in 13 years...

@georgiewalker5826 - Certainly THAT is a given for talks to even start... I just think France will dig its heels in and veto it, I really do.

@geraldinetynan1654 "We could say the pain is coming anyway" this is very true

@jounik - so much has changed here that I cant even give an accurate situation report. We used to have a very vocal nationalist minority that wanted nothing to do with the EU. Then Brexit - that shut them up a lot. THEN Russia invaded Ukraine, which shut them up even more. Wages in Bulgaria have gone up 500% since 2000, most of that since joining the EU. When I moved here we had dirt roads with horse and cart - we now have glass smooth roads with €1.3 million battery electric buses and digital bus stops. The old communist apartment blocks are all being renovated and insulated - mine is about to be done this month. Life here has utterly TRASFOMED since I moved here. Equally Ive lost touch with a lot of people due to lockdown and me having long covid - so Im 2 years out of date with what people are thinking. But I get the impression that people are very pro EU right now.

@ulfosterberg1979 I lived in a southwestern corner of France. in French 80 is quatre-vingt which is 4x20's. NOT in this bit of France its "cinquante, vingt dix" 50+20+10 Can you imagine people who wont even agree on the national numbering system voting to allow the "rosbifs" back in the EU...???? I lived there 3 years - even the people who spoke perfect English would not speak English to me, I was in France. Learn French. Im not complaining - I loved it there mostly because of its obstinacy. My point is, a lot of France is still very provincial - they hate Parris and the only thing they hate more are the English. They had petrol pumps that dispensed wine, no kidding. Pull up fill your car with unleaded and your barrel with wine. What a great place to live - Cap De Agde I was at .

@MrNukedawhales - I agree, so have most British people. Ive lived in France. The French will cut off their nose to spite their face if yo had then the wrong brand of cigarette. The French will veto it until the heat death of the universe...
