Its really weird. Its really quite hard to see it from within England. I moved to Bulgaria 12 years ago and it almost immediately became clear to me. England is a club run for the benefit of and by old Etonians.

@tommohawksaxe2609 - No I can. You can be in favour of a principle, but decry the real state of affairs. I mean IF the UK were run by very liberal genuinely competent people who respected the differences of the regions, encouraged diversity through investment in those regions. Governed for the WHOLE of the UK. There would be no call for independence in Scotland. Phil presumably aspires to that goal. Im more pessimistic and i say to Scotland RUN, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM THIS SINKING SHIP OF ENGLAND.

@nickbarton3191 - Animal Farm is an amazing book. I dislike it getting hijacked as just a critique of communism when in reality its a critique of human nature.

@mrdaveythebaby - That's my exact point. It is a criticism of humanity and political leaders full stop. Right or left. But it gets co-opted as "proof that communism cant work". In the same vein as "communism leads to forced labour camps" - really??? Are you sure you dont mean "dictators are bad people" and "capitalism, by its very nature, tends towards slave labour" and "Slavery is literally enshrined in the 13th amendment of the US constitution and the biggest population of forced labour in world history is right now in the US prison system" Pretty much any bad thing that happened in a communist country is proof communism can never work...
