@ianl1052 FUN FACT you are talking bollox. Thatcher took VAT from 8% to 15% and I think you will find that a 7% jump is a lot bigger than 2.5%. EDIT - Im editing this cos I was an arse - Im ill at the moment so apologies to Ian L

@macman6421 - VAT was raised in 1980 from 8% to 15%. the legislation was passed in 1979 but not enacted until 1980 Corporation Tax was cut in 1980 from 55%. the legislation was passed in 1979 but not enacted until 1980

@macman6421 I could have done 4 hours ago when I looked up the data. But to be honest I don't care enough to argue about it as Im working right now. If you wish to believe its a different figure please feel free, but it was definitely these figures before the legislation was passed in June 1979.
