@roseanne9986 - THANK YOU - here in Bulgaria we are a net exporter of electricity. Any excess profits from wholesale exports has to be offset against domestic costs. So last month I got a 75 pence REBATE - free electricity for a month and 75p back... This is a BAD GOVERNMENT problem, the cost of petrochemicals and gas are hitting the countries with the lowest regulation... We also have massive oil stockpiles to buffer the cost. Bulgaria is a socialist country - it tries to average out the cost of things across classes and time. Out bus fairs are 60p no matter HOW long your trip, 1 stop or 50 stops - its 60p. So people that live a long way from their job or the city centre are NOT penalised - its 1 bus journey - you pay for 1 bus journey.

@Bruce-1956 -NO - its a bad government problem.

@roseanne9986 - Exactly - the amount of pain people are suffering is a direct link to how right-wing and evil the government is...

@keithhobbs1 - Im sure its pretty close to being possible to live an entirely normal life on solar + batteries now. I was using the low efficiency unbelievably expensive panels of the 1990's and 12 volt lead-acid batteries. By contrast, my sister has rooftop solar that is 10 years old and many days she is putting more back into the grid than she uses - but due to the tariff con she gets like 3p for the electricity she supplies and pays 40p or something for what she uses... Hence batteries...!!! I hope it works out for you, Im sure it will.

@Bruce-1956 - thats just not true - sorry - France has a 4% increase in energy bills. Wanker.

@keithhobbs1 - I lived on a boat for 2 years with nothing but solar and in an off-grid cabin for 3 years with a wind turbine and very occasional generator. This is partly why my electricity bill is £11.30 - most people here, even with the balancing rebate from the wholesale exported electricity profits will be paying £30 to £50 a month. But I know how to conserve electricity. All light bulbs are LED, even they get turned off when I go out the room. All doors and windows have very thick heavy curtains that are opened the second the sun comes up and shut the second it goes down. Water heaters are turned on when I NEED them, not left on all the time. I learned to manage the electricity usage cos it was 20 years ago I lived off-grid, technology was NOT good back then, you eaked out every mwh It really annoys me that the BBC are not putting out nightly programs on HOW to manage energy. £100 worth of second-hand curtains can cut £100 of your heating bill each month, I know cos my sister just did exactly that. She went from having the central heating on all day to burning 1 of the large wood briquettes on the wood-burning stove on a night. They worked it out on Saturday - they used 1/2 a pallet of briquets to heat the house all winter, that's £200

@playthegame7445 - I just commented to to other guy... I lived on a boat for 2 years with nothing but solar and in an off-grid cabin for 3 years with a wind turbine... All doors and windows have very thick heavy curtains that are opened the second the sun comes up and shut the second it goes down. They worked it out on Saturday - they used 1/2 a pallet of briquets to heat the house all winter, that's £200 ---§--- But the BBC dont want to do "war time" style rationing public service announcements as that would highlight to the people it is a national emergency and that would require the government to act... As I said before - this is a BAG GOVERNANCE issue. there is no need for the energy cost to be so high, and there is no need for people to be using so much energy...
