MY SISTER WROTE THE PIG WELFARE STANDARDS FOR THE EU I cant tell you how many hundreds of conversations we have had about this issue over the last 7 years...

WE DID CHECK INBOUND ANIMALS from the EU - not all of them -= but random checks were done

@51bikerboy - Its the legal welfare standard for the EU for the last 10 years. The UK used to abide by them. This is how stupid Brexit is - it was written specifically to benefit the UK. Like all the animal welfare standards and crop standards, the company wrote for the EU. The idiotic farmers that voted leave cos of the high welfare standards the EU imposed DOH. Britain wrote those standards. The British government used to impose high standards then ADAS would write them into EU law and that then restricted imports and promoted exports of British farm produce giving the British farms a legal advantage as they had already complied with the standards that were now EU wide. They threw all that down the drain by being greedy. Thinking they would be able to LOWER standards and still sell to the EU - the EU does not work like that.

@caterthun4853 - That's sort of true. Animals from compliant farms with regular checks are assumed healthy - the ear tags with the barcode match the paperwork to provide traceability. They are not ALL checked prior to transport. The system works on an overall compliance and tracing model - that appears to work fairly well

@justsayen2024 2 really. 1) There is vast amounts of frozen Russian extremely dodgy pork on ships floating around the world tyring to be offloaded to anyone who will take it and as soon as the UK lowers the standards enough it will be flooding the UK market, its very low welfare, its riddled with parasites, and probably diseases. 2) Chacking inbound animal health at ports and slaughter houses is the worst job in veterinary so it was always given to the EU vet students on work experience in the UK - they dont exist any longer due to Brexit and NO WAY will you get a vet on £150k a year to give up injecting kittens for MILF to go stand in a cold shed next to the sea scraping pigs feet, so the problem can not be solved. The vets DONT EXIST to do the checks on inbound animals - even the ones from 3rd party none EU coutnries.

@brendanbarker6403 - And you think that will last do you after Brexit??? THATS WHY FARMERS VOTED BREXIT - they wanted to lower standards

@brendanbarker6403 - Im astounded the EU has given that the green light. YES the thing the UK does very very badly is educate its consumers. In France the packaging for say a chicken has the picture of the farmer on the label with his address and telephone number, the details of how the animal was raised. OR at least it had when I lived in France, I dont know if that has changed. Bad wages in the Uk have been subsidised increasingly by unrealistically cheap food and plastic crap from China for the last 30 years. Amazingly Karl Marks predicted this would happen 150 years ago. He also predicted that property prices and rents would go sky high as there would be no profit in making anything as everything would be made in the cheapest country on earth... Love him or hate him - he was right with his predictions for capitalism.
