THERE IS ANOTHER REASON the day Proportional Representation is announced - Labout split into 2 parties... Labour and the Socialist Party So the Unions will then have control over a party that is likely SMALLER than the Liberal Democrats. The LD's maybe would be forming a Govt with Labour OR the Socialist Party. So the unions would prefer a FPTP that keeps Labout together with a Anti Tory Alliance - that at least gives them some power over the majority party in govt.

@ai-d2121 - I have to confess, it was Novara Media that explained that to me. Which is why my other comment was this... I DONT THINK THE 20% are the hard left - I watch Novara Media and see their live chat and they are TOTALLY behind PR and even did a segment on how horrible the unions were for not voting for it...!!! The hard left that they represent are 100% FOR PR. They feel the Unions are forcing them to support centrist they hate.

Cos the ONLY way Labour get in power is in a anti tory alliance and the No1 criterion for that from the Libs and the Greens will be PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION. So the conference and Starmer can say what they want - but IF they get into power it will be PR.
