Badly educated people voting in a polarised society ripped apart by tribalism over a decisive issue vote to reinforce their beliefs and lessen the cognitive dissonance from their awakening reality as the alternative is to admit their mistake, which won't happen for 3 or 4 years. Meanwhile, the disaffected side in the culture war lose faith in the system and don't vote.

Jam Stay - NO. You can not draw that conclusion. It may be true, it may not. But a single off season election after a pandemic with a drop in turn out of 37% is such an outlier that NOTHING can be drawn from it.

@BENTWOONEZERO - Absolutely, you are not being naive. One of the big factors in the election of Trump in the USA was the 30 years of disparagement and mockery of the badly educated people of America. The entire "sticking it to the libs" movement is born out of the desire to prove to the "libs" - the elite - that they are not as thick as they are made out to be. Unfortunately, they are as thick as they are made out to be so they were used by a conman and now believe in fantasies. But, it is not in any way a good idea to mock people for this because they don't like it and they have a vote just the same as a PhD from Harvard. In the UK it is a fact that badly educated people vote against their own best interests just like in America and that means voting conservative and for Brexit. The same as obese people voted overwhelmingly for Brexit. But badly educated people are badly educated people, that a fact not an insult. Obese people are obese people and that's a fact, not an insult. Should they be mocked for this, no. But it can not be excluded from the conversation for fear of offending.

@BENTWOONEZERO - being thick and being badly educated are NOT actually two separate things. Education physically builds synapse connections in the brain and makes the building of subsequent synapse connections easier.
