LABOUR ANNOUNCED TODAY they are bringing manufacturing businesses back to the UK for strategic security and supply security reasons, no longer will the cheapest or the quickest option be allowed to be the default option for the UK businesses, consideration has to be given to British national security. And consideration to be given to the "health" of the nation. Which is actually kinda how they do things here in Bulgaria. We still have street sweepers not machines - why? Cos it gives jobs to people who would otherwise be unemployable and on benefits, getting depressed and ill. Whats the point of paying benefits to make someone ill when you can pay them a wage to be useful and heathy.

@megannehover I know loads of the street sweepers. They do a really conscientious job, today one of them was on her hands and knees picking litter up from under a bush in the grassed area. If you automate all the menial jobs what do people with low skills do...??? 20% of society has an IQ below 85. Im not saying you have to have a low IQ to be a road sweeper, but if you have a low IQ what job ARE you going to do if we automate all this stuff...??? On a similar vein, I've spoken to 3 separate people over the last 10 years who have retired from really important jobs, each one has gone to work as a hospital porter and all three have said it's the best most rewarding job they've had in their life. And none of these people know each other. This is entirely coincidental.

Point 2 - NO, IQ below 85 you are not capable of understanding complex instructions or it takes you a long time to understand them. "At no point would you want someone like that working in the public realm without a carer to supervise them." @mrD66M - Im as leftie as they come. But I have no problem making a condition of asylum that you do 5 years in a "socially beneficial job" be that picking vegetables or cleaning up fly-tipping. After that You can apply for any "normal" job.

@mrD66M I'm not saying they should be slaves, they should get a full living wage, with all the benefits of society they're not in prison and, they're not restricted in any way, they have a good life. It's just you have to work at a job that is beneficial to society that we have trouble filling, otherwise. If you're a nurse, you have to work in the NHS for five years before you can go and work at a private hospital, if you're a doctor, the same, if you're completely on skill but young and fit and healthy, you have to work on a farm, or clearing up fly-tipping.

@mrD66M I understand your reticence, I'm never a fan of creating a two tier society. It's why I don't like the rolling cigarettes van. You're going to have a situation soon where a 30-year-old can buy cigarettes. A 29-year-old can't buy cigarettes. They have different rights. They could be in a relationship with each other husband and wife and they have different rights. And it would lead to the possibility of exploitation as well I suppose. I think a compromise would be you have say two years, whilst your application has been processed, where you're allowed to work in socially beneficial jobs, then you have a probationary period of say two years, then you get British citizenship.

@mrD66M I do mean residency. I've taken to dictating my answers and comments et cetera. Due to an injury on my hand, it doesn't quite give me enough time to think if you pause too long it thinks you've stopped and end of the sentence. So in a mild panic times making silly errors.
