A SERVICE ECONOMY is not an economy, it's a short term way of funnelling money into the pockets of the already rich... Did China start a "service economy"? NO Same with the USA and the "Retail Economy" - 70% of GDP comes from people buying plastic crap from China, result - China rich USA collapsing.

@Daniel Wood - Exactly, the idea that manufacturing is dirty and disgusting and to be shunned is Thatcher's legacy. She had issues in her childhood that left her with a deep-seated hatred of working people and their close societies and she was determined to destroy them. She poisoned the UK mindset over manufacturing.

@gorillaguerillaDK - Well I for one are losing faith in this. Im beginning to think that maybe the people who said it was a great idea, they might have been lying. I have this tiny suspicion that they may have had ulterior motives.

@hape3862 - This is my EXACT POINT. Moving money around and calling it GDP is a fantasy. It only really benefits those who skim a bit off the top as commission and that's the bankers and financial institutions. I remember the first time I went to Germany - a country with a proper industrial added value economy. I was ASTONISHED. The roads were FULL of HGV's taking raw materials to factories and HGV's taking VW's and Porsches to the markets and I literally stopped the car and just watched; thinking "this is how you make a strong economy - you take raw materials and you ADD value" I could see it in front of my eyes clear as day - bulk ore trucks going one way and machinery and cars going the other way TO THE BORDER. It was a propper wake up moment for me.

@korolev-musictobashbrexitby - AH RIGHt - yeah either work actually. I hate Thatcher with a passion that is barely containable. You see - I moved to Bulgaria 12 years ago. And Bulgaria STILL HAS "community" cos they never had thatcher. We assume that being antisocial and selfish is just a modern necessity. Not knowing what your neighbour is called and not caring. NO - that is Thatcher's legacy. Here people talk to their neighbours like we did in the 1970's - like I remember as a child. It beings home to my just how much the UK has lost. that is, I think, why people hare are not as obsessed with being successful - its not as important when you live in a society of people who care about you. I have 6 cucumbers and a block of home made cheese this morning from a neighbour - that's my lunch sorted, for FREE. society is NICE, its really really nice...
