@andrewbarton8525 - A German study of Brexit voters published a couple of weeks ago found the following thoughts on Brexit now 1) They never realised the benefits of being in the EU were actually dependent on being IN the EU. They thought everything would be the same - only the UK would not have to follow the EU rules. 2) I have screwed up my child future Others were: not realising that the benefits of being in the EU are the result of being in the EU, they thought that was just how the world worked. Surprise that the EU were not being "nice" or "friendly" General "surprise" at the number of ways it affects them i.e. not able to buy from companies in the EU without huge taxes.

@andrewbarton8525 - 90% of scientists and people with PhD's voted remain a study shows. That alone kinda skews the IQ and the maths ability of the average Brexit voter in the downward direction...

@bobfisher1916 - I live in Bulgaria and I was told I could not vote cos I had been out of the country for too long, which I just accepted. Later when I checked it was not the case but at that point, it was too late to get a ballot. My vote would not have changed the result but Im still very angry about it...

@davidhollins870 - you see that is a nonsensical statement because it is so vague as to be meaningless. What the EU's trade with the world? The EU's trade with inter EU countries? The EU's trade with the UK? The EU's import figures? The EU's Export figures of golf balls to Bangladesh???

@davidhollins870 - sorry but without units and what it refers to its meaningless. Is it GDP for the whole EU? Down 10% against what, same period last year? Average of 10 years GDP. Down 10% against previous predictions? Im not being an arse for the sake of being an arse, but this is how people manipulate statistics, they tell you a thing and a number that supports their position without the context that gives it relevance.

@bobfisher1916 - and then resigning when it all went tits up... The shit.

@bobfisher1916 - So this seems like a systemic problem then, not just me being an idiot like I had presumed. If nothing else this at least eases my guilt that I have felt for the last 5 years.

Jim Blogs - Well I was on top of it [not that this is a criticism of anyone just enjoying their life in Europe and not paying attention in the UK - why would you? you don't live there] but I had a business exporting Bulgarian cosmetics to the UK. So it was a big BIG thing for me - and another reason why I could not imagine I had got the period wrong and misread 15 as 5... MY other issue was - it took 60% [I think] to enter the EU - why only 50% to leave??? If we had a standard for referendums at 60% to enact them - then its 60%... I think the the govt did not think it was going to be close and simply bungled the whole thing from start to finish.

@alandavidge1273 - That's very interesting. I have never discussed this before and assumed I was just being an idiot. I was unaware that it was a pattern. I got it off a government website. I went to register and it said you can not vote if you have been out of the country more than [these numbers are from memory so may not be correct] 5 years, I had been out 8 years. It turned out the cut off was 15 years but I did not discover this until a couple of days before the election. Ironically from a news report of people being furious, there was a 15 year cut off. NOW - I thought I had misread the info and I have been angry with myself ever since. Im now wondering if it was actually the UK.GOV site misinforming people - OR EVEN if it was a scam site set up to disenfranchise those overseas who would have voted to remain in very large numbers... Im not a conspiracy theorist - but a misleading website would have been useful and there was a LOT of misinformation about... I ran quite a large online company at the time - it would be unlike me to have made a simple error like that, I was in the habit or writing down all information in a day book to refer back to. I was precise and detailed.
