I HAD A LARD COFFEE YESTERDAY 800 calories for 23 pence My sister and I were trying to work out what is the cheapest calories per £1 that is actually edible and we came up with swapping the butter in a "bulletproof coffee" for lard. So I made one - the shocking thing is - tastes just LIKE butter coffee. HINT - "Walls" make 2 things - pork sausages and ice cream - what do you think the ice cream is made from??

@iscadean6038 - when you are hungry the idea is to get as MANY calories in as possible - not as few...

@iscadean6038 - You must have massive psychological problems with soup...!!! Carrots are NOT cheaper than lard. Lard is 20p for 250g or 2,250 calories Carrots are 39p for 1kg or 410 calories Calories per £1 Carrots 1,051 Lard 11,250 Lard is 10.7 X as calorie-dense per £1 as carrots

@channelsixtyeight068 - I used locally roasted Indonesian coffee beans freshly ground - Im super lucky 200m from my apartment is a coffee roaster 😀 Im borderline Type 1 diabetic from a pancreas injury so i eat basically a "ketogenic diet" but I dont do it to lose weight. Butter coffee was a thing that i was like you - PUKE - over, actually ita lovely. And Lard coffee - I was the same yesterday - I honestly nearly bottled it about 6 times - It tastes exactly the same as butter coffee...

@matthewhackett1710 I just commented to the other guy "Im borderline Type 1 diabetic from a pancreas injury so i eat basically a "ketogenic diet" but I dont do it to lose weight" YEAH this "low fat" stuff is total nonsense, fat does not make you fat - sugar and hyper-processed crap makes you fat. I lost 4 stones by switching from carbs to fats... BUT - I have to confess - I was surprised that lard coffee tasted exactly the same as butter coffee...

@channelsixtyeight068 "I've had a dripping and jelly sandwich, some decades ago, so I do have some prior experience of it. I never liked the greasy film, lard left in your mouth" DITTO and that is exactly what I was expecting wiht the coffee. But NOPE. "hydrogenated trans-fats" I stopped eating mayonnaise made with hydrogenated sunflower oil and I started to sleep a lot better immediately - I have no idea why this would be. But I was eating mayonnaise every day, that said it was clearly doing something...

@iscadean6038 - I know. But the point is that poor people in the Uk are literally calorie deficient [almost everyone in the Uk is nutrient deficient - different story] so my sister and I were trying to work out what they could eat that was very very low cost but gave them the literal calories to function. It came for a story of a nurse who was skipping meals to feed her kids and not being able to finish shists cos she didn't have the energy. I 100% agree. the VERY first thing they should be doing is stopping buying processed food and making stews of vegetables, lentils, beans, cheap cuts of meat etc. But this was a literal exercise in "what is the cheapest thing you can have to get you through a 10 hour shift if you can't afford a proper meal" We worked out lard was the cheapest calories per £ but how to eat it cos its vile - and we came up with "butter coffee" but with lard. 70g of lard whisked into a coffee gives you about 800 calories. And 800 calories will get you through a shift.

@channelsixtyeight068 Cutting out refined sugar transformed my life. It was utter hell for 12 weeks like. But that just goes to show how addictive it is...

@iscadean6038 - You are completely missing the point. If you are MISSING DINNER cos you no money - how many vitamins and minerals is that mean giving you??? NO ONE is suggesting you ONLY eat lard. "Your logic should start with a question - what food stuff will provide a balanced diet - not just calories." NO, that wasn't the question - the question was "If you dont have enough money to eat and you are collapsing at work cos you have not eaten enough CALORIES - what is the cheapest highest calorie food that is available and edible? You are asking a DIFFERENT question and the answer is naturally different.
