  1. WHEN I WAS A KID IN 1970's my dad was an engineer at the power station - all his mates were engineers at the power station and WE had the crappiest house... A 3 bedroom stone built semi in massive ornamental gardens. All his mates had 3 and 4 bed detached houses - THAT was the life of an ordinary 30-year-old engineer in the 1970's. And this is on ONE salary, none of the wives worked, they looked after the kids. The REAL standard of living has been dropping since 1980 - disguised by the extra salary fo the partner.

  3.  @oisnowy5368  - Women were NOT "encouraged" into the workforce. Women were FORCED into the workforce to cover the rising cost of housing.
