IM MANY RESPECTS ITS ALL ACADEMIC cos at the next election two things are absolute fact: 1) Labour can only win in an anti Tory alliance so the only option will be Tory or Not Tory for every voter 2) The entire election will be an anti Tory election - no one is voting FOR Starmer, they are voting AGAINST the Tries

I WATCHED EVERY MINUTE OF IT LIVE my God was it boring, and it went on forever and EVER...!!! 1 hour 30 minutes OMG He started off talking about his life and that was actually OK. After that it just went on and on and on. Apparently, he mentioned Brexit, I must literally have been asleep cos I cant remember that at all... Vague hopes and platitudes that anyone form any party could have said. Im not a Corbynite - I Gave him the benefit of doubt - but that was so uninspiring...

@lazytitan9987 - And that was the problem. They voted against Corbyn, not his policies. Most people liked most of his actual policies. The Tories didn't put Domonic Cummings on the ballot, they kept him hidden and put up a lovable buffon. Labour just are not election savvy

@BrightonandHoveActually - Lets be real. After 200 years of Tory rule in the UK the entire apparatus of state is geared in every single way to ensuring the continuation of that rule. The UK is a Tory country by engineered design. The ONLY time the UK has a Labour government is when the Trois screw things up so badly the people hate them with a burning passion enough to overcome the distorted systems of power retention... And Labour are idiots. when they get power, they never change the mechanics of the political system... Which ensures another vast stretch of Troy rule. I have not checked it but someone said in the last 200 years the Troys have only been out of power for 18 years...

@iana2127 - NO - I'm the guy who writes the book. I'm an author. It takes on average 18 months to write a 100,000-word book. And the MAIN feedback I get is "Could not put it down, read it in sitting" or "Read it in two days". I'm reading Karl Marx Das Kapital at the moment and Starmer's speech was very much like reading Das Kapital - very long and very very boring and if you don't concentrate 100% all the time you'll miss the important bits. I prefer Ken Follet and Douglas Adams, you know, something engaging... IT IS NOT MY JOB to pay attention to Starmers speech, it's Starmers job to keep me engaged. If my readers stop halfway through one of my books - that's MY FAULT...

@Daniel Wood - Id be way WAY more interesting. And I sure as hell would not drone on for 90 minutes.

@brendanbarker6403 - I assume you mean the infighting from the left-wing??? Well people get this wrong, infighting is not why parties lose elections - people think it is. Lack of a strong charismatic leader is the reason parties lose elections and infighting is a SYMPTOM of a lack of a strong charismatic leader. People always blame "infighting" but infighting is just what humans do, in all groups, it's the LEADER's job to LEAD and that means unite the people...

@iana2127 - OH BOO HOO you hurt my feelings.

@iana2127 - OK fair enough thanks for the apology. But the point is - IM not the leader of the Labour party asking 50 million people to vote for me. Maybe I am boring, enough of the global English speaking world thinks I am interesting enough to buy my books and give average 4.6* reviews and that's enough for me. IF I want more income I can do a few things, write more books, get better at writing to increase my * rating. The first bit of his speech as by far the best when he was talking about himself and his past achievements. I was waiting for him to tear the Toris a new one and lay out a clear plan for how they were going to transform the country and I got 1 hour 15 minutes after the personal bit of just vague ambitions and mild criticism and I literally got to the point of just thinking "God when will this end". The problem with Corbyn for most people wasn't his policies, most people found a lot to like in those, he was a terrible leader - he was not a man you wanted to vote for. Starmer is a centrist who is also a terrible leader with zero charisma. People will vote for Starmer cos he is NOT the Trois THATS IT. And that IS a long boring comment LOL this is a Starmer comment!!! EDIT: I did think the heckling was incredibly unhelpful to everyone's cause and I though he handled that very well...

@brendanbarker6403 - None of them inspires. At least the SCUM comment was engaging...

@iana2127 - What I am prepared to accept is that maybe this speech was not intended to be a great rousing speech for those that watched it. Rather a way of getting 20 or 30 soundbites and policy ideas etc out there for future consumption. Maybe the purpose of the speech is for people to be able to cut and paste bits of it over the next year "As Starmer said at the conference..." Play clip. In which case it may have been quite good. But as an actual speech, it was long and dull IMO.
