In 2014 I was worth €6 million and I was not living paycheck to paycheck - but I was not far off. I grew up in an extremely poor family and had no personal financial literacy. My expenses kept up with my income until I literally could NOT spend more than I was earning in the hours available. Then in 2015 I suffered brain damage in a mugging - I had no personal insurance, cos I didn't know that was a thing. People talk about poor people making bad decisions - but they don't talk about the fact you need education to make good decisions AND you need to know there is a decision to be made in the first place. I dont actually miss being rich - its not like the movies - but it has shown me that even in the massively unlikely event you make it as a poor kid, your chances of keeping it are incredibly slim, you will either squander it or lose it in some other way.

@rudyardganuelas6254 100%. You are 1 accident or a couple of bad decision / errors away from being homeless. No one THINKS they have not covered all their bases - its the unknown unknowns and the simple errors. My friend in America found her health insurance company had been returning her monthly premiums for some admin reason. She sorted it out - but she was about 5 months without medical cover - IF she had a big issue she could have been bankrupted.
