  1. I LIVE IN BULGARIA now - I have interviewed 200 maybe 300 people who lived under the communist times and the first thing is - it was NOT a monolith that we in the west think. One person living in one country or even city can have had a very different experience to another. Here in Bulgaria - the vast majority of people want to go back to communism. Next door in Romania NO ONE wants to go back to communism. The lesson for me is - communism is not bad. Evil dictators are bad. Here in Bulgaria, 65% of families have a 2nd home in the countryside for the weekend. That guy used to fly to Odessa for the weekend for a few kopecks. They were NOT living on turnips as we were told - unless they were in Romania.

  2.  @Sword_Master149  - Im not that educated as to be able to comment. But I arrived in Bulgaria a foaming at the moth capitalist and now I am a borderline communist. Not a "Tanki" not wanting to restore the USSR. But I definitely believe there is a better way to organise society. The city I live in was built for the benefit of the people - not for the benefit of profit and it is SO different to western cities - thousands of fruit trees for example - why? FREE FRUIT - everyone get 4 months of limitless free frut. Such an obvious small thing but no western city has fruit trees, that PROFIT you are stealing from the supermarkets. Its a thousand things like this. We CAN build a better, happier society.

  3.  @c.a.s1900  - Its 110F here in summer. Fruit does not ripen in the summer it ripens in the autumn and you grow the fruit that is appropriate for the climate. The fruit that drops to the ground is made into fermented liquor that is distilled to make Rakia - brandy. Admittedly you cant do this in the land of the free cos distilling your own spirits is illegal - but here its perfectly legal... Always fascinated me how the land of the free is anything but.

  4.  @hotto5150  - Im not sure who you mean by "you guys" cos I'm English living in Bulgaria with an interest in its communist history. And I only know what I know and what I know is through interviewing people and reading reports and studies. It is by no means all encompassing. In 1945 the life expectancy in the USSR was 35. In 1975 it was 70. Its the highest rate of life expectancy increase in history. As you point out - people say "oh look how poor people were in the USSR" YEAH, it was a literal feudal society with literal peasants in 1915 - by 1965 it was a super power rivalling the USA.

In 1915 Russia was an agrarian subsistence farming feudal society with a literal peasant population and a life expectancy of 35. By 1965 it was beating the USA in the space race and has a life expectancy of 70. Your comment is so incredibly bigoted and ignorant, I will waste no further time on it...

  6.  @imthecryptic  Българският ми е наистина лош. So I'll reply in English. I came to escape the rain in England. But I have stayed because I love it. I live in an old communist pannel block near the sea and my neighbours are the most wonderful people.

The whole communist times in Eastern Europe is very complicated - and that's bad for the west cos mostly we can cope with a 3 word slogan, 4 on a good day.

YES America is a continent of 35 countries and I know that - yes I use "America" to mean the USA cos of 50 years of prop[aganda by the American media and movie industry drilling it into my head that America is 330 million people living in the USA. My apologies - I know better. But propaganda is a very powerful thing.

  10. Yeah but America is a collapsing society so its not JUST nostalgia, there are very very real and tangible reasons for wanting to go back 40 years. People in Sweeden don't want to. People in Romania don't want to.

  11.  @Daniel.ÎîîîΠ - Hi Daniel - I know you guys in Romania had it REALLY bad under communism. I have friends in Romania who have told me about their lives there under Ceaușescu. My friend used to get a pigs ear at Christmas to chew on as a treat... Her favourite food even today is pigs fat on bread - that was what she lived on as a child. And I know the orphaned cildren situation in Romania was utterly horrific. People here seem to have had it a lot better - I did not live through it, I can only report what people tell me. In the recent election, 70% of people over 60 voted for the communist party - people here, on the whole, seem to have had a good time. But I am FULLY in the knowledge that the people of Romania absolutely DO NOT want communism. It was a literal living hell
