IN THE REST OF THE WORLD GAS IS $8 TO $12 A GALLON you guys get insanely subsidised level of gas as a direct subsidy to your petroleum and car industry...!!! This is why Americans create 2 X the CO2 than Europeans. And one of the reasons there is no trade deal with the EU. You SHOULD be paying $7.50 MINIMUM.

@Segalmed - YEP - but you are destroying the planet. You cars SHOULD NOT be heavier, your cars should NOT be less efficient. You do have further to drive so your cars should be lighter, more efficient than European ones and you should have the worlds best high speed rail network. And the reason you don't is the government subsidise gas so that GM and Ford stay in business - cos if gas was $10 a gallon like it is in most places, NO ONE wound buy a GM or a Ford. Im not having a go at the average American - but as a society, you are destroying the planet to keep 2 outdated very inefficient car manufacturers in business. You have Tesla, the best electric car company in the world - who did Biden visit to drive an electric car??? GM and Ford...!!! He credited GM wiht the electrification of the worlds car market. You LITERALLY have the words nest electric car maker and the president is snubbing them and promoting the guys who make 15mpg pick up trucks. The thing is - I'm pretty sure that even conservatives would like their truck to do 60mpg.

@Segalmed - apologies I thought you were speaking as an American. The thing is, I've driven American cars - I actually broke down in an American car near the Nürburgring, and there was a local American car parts place that could supply me with a new alienator UNBELIEVABLY... Back to my point - they are utter trash. I mean a Mk1 VW Polo is built 5 X as well as early 2000 American stuff. I cant speak after that cos I have not driven it, but I doubt it has radically transformed. I drove across Europe to Bulgaria in a 2000 Lincoln Towncar Limousine - it was THAT BAD that the trip was hilarious. The door locks were mostly plastic and would shatter if you went over a pot hole. To turn right you just stopped turning left, cos 100% of the rest of the time you had to turn left. It was still using 1950's style square 12V relays that would stick and you would have to get out and tap them with a screwdriver. The exhaust manifolds had rusted through - this was 2009 - the cast iron of the manifolds had literally rusted away and there were holes in the manifold on a 9 year old car. I never even knew that was a thing that could happen to a car...
