Im not defending what we did - but the true story of the founding of America and its early history is VERY different from the things you are taught. The war of independence was over rich people not wanting to pay taxes. Those rich people got the French to help, win independence, the very first treaty the USA signed was with France to always come to Frances aid in the event of war and a few years later when France was at war with Britain those SAME rich people broke the treaty and sold America's aid to the highest bitter - Britain or France... There is a reason America does not teach its history - "you cant handle the history!" And all this is the GOOD BIT of your history.
