My sister lives in the countryside in England, an American finance corporation, bought up a farm next to her house, they ripped out every hedge and every boundary demolish every building a made one giant field. This caused it to flood, so they put in field drains. This caused the road to wash away, after 3 years they were forced to put a culvert in and the council had to re do the road. The houses that have stood since 1740 all now have damp problems as they have screwed up the water table and the machinery they use is so large it shakes the ground so violently all the houses are developing cracks. There is not even anyone to complain to - the workers are private contractors they dont own the land, the land is owned by Blackrock or someone in the USA - its slowly destroying one half of the village.

@oscarcazarez2227 I moved to Bulgaria from the UK 15 years ago. The driving here was literally the worst I've seen anywhere on Earth, and I've driven across Africa. They decided to tackle a problem, they painted realistic road layouts on the playground at the schools and they took the kids to drive in little electric cars from five years old. They increased the penalties as well for bad driving. The change has been UTTERLY astonishing Even teenage boys drive at 15mph in the built-up areas. It just takes the governmental willpower to actually make an effort and invest some money. BUT our car insurance costs QUOTE: "The price range in 2023 is between 110-180 €" thats for a year $150 to $200 and young kids dont pay massive premiums cos they are NOT bad drivers, because they are educated. EDIT - just looked it up - Car insurance for a 20-year-old in America costs $5,517 per year on average. $200 here - $5,317 the difference, is probably MORE than it cost to teach them to be good drivers from the age of 5

@Misses-Hippy Well Charles has always been a strong environmentalist, there used to be a cartoon about him talking to his pot plants. I doubt he would intervein in a single instance but the issue of foreign companies buying up British farm land and destroying the environment in general is worth writing to him about. The hedgerows they pulled out were home to thousands of birds, squirrels, hedgehogs, badgers, foxes, owls, a whole ecosystem. Those hedges were 1000 years old...

@Misses-Hippy Just to be clear I don't know if it is Blackrock but its one of the big US financial institutions. The issue is, the land is owned by a company that is NOT in the UK, they have NO office in the UK, no employees in the UK, so you write to the American office they just ignore you cos even if you get a British court to legislate - they have NO operations in the UK - the land is farmed by subcontractors. The grain is not sold in the UK it is put on ships. NO trading is done in the UK. America has a similar problem with China owning farmland and farming it remotely I believe. This is the problem with truly global companies, they can not be held accountable. EDIT - it was the local council that put the culvert in to stop the riad being washed away.
