  1. I HAVE NO INTEREST IN INTERNAL COMBUSTION engines any longer - its the chirping of a dial-up modem in the fibreoptic world - its history... I gave away a CL55 merc a year ago, Id not used it for 3 years and it was sat outside slowly rotting, better to give it to someone who cares, Ive lost interest in noisy, oily, polluting, unreliable, shaky, expensive 20th-century technology. Ill go to the classic car shows to see history - I dont want to DRIVE history.

  2.  @BmacRDX  - What cos I don't want to drive 100-year-old technology that is dirty, noisy and polluting...? We used to have steam cars you know, why are you not driving a seam car - getting up an hour before you need to use it to stoke the boiler with coal...???

  4.  @williamgechtman9287  - The limiting factor for EV sales is battery availability. the EV makers all have long waiting lists for their cars. The ONLY reason anyone produces and ICE car is they cant produce enough EV's. NO manufacturer wants to make an ICE massively complicated, a warranty nightmare, they make them cos they cant produce enough EV's - thats the only reason. Its ALWAYS always about the most modern, fastest, smoothest transportation available. The ICE car will be like the horse in 15years time, a play thing for enthusiasts who are willing to put up with the inconvenience, the aggravation, the dirt, the smell, the cost - because they love them. My sister has a horse, she also has a Tesla Mod Y on order...

  5.  @JupiterxBlues  - I think we are talking from different but equally valid standpoints. I believe you are saying "we still need ICE cos not everyone can have an EV" am I right?? And is fo - YES I 100% agree with you. I'm just talking from an expensive performance or luxury car perspective. My last Merc did 13 to 16 MPG most of the time - 25 on the motorway, but I hardly did any motorway driving. That's over $1 per mile at current European prices for 100 octane, which it was supposed to run on. And that was for less than 400bhp. Just looked it up 360Bhp. Im just not interested in $280 a time to fill the tank, Im not interested in standing there at a gas station breathing in foul-smelling petrol fumes, and massive annual service bills, its all just so 20th century for me. At that level of motoring - either performance or luxury - I want silent clean electric power. I dont want my iMac plugged into a generator and I dont want my car running on petrol. If I was buying a utility car for $5k - totally different story. As it happens I don't need a car now, I live right in the city centre, just hire one for trips.

  6.  @BeStill66  I already have a new hobby - Ill be getting an Aptera, a 3 wheeler solar-powered car that looks like a spaceship pod that will never need charging where I live [300 days of sunshine a year] and does 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds.   8.  @williamgechtman9287  - I think that is basically exactly what I said. ICE cars will become a thing for enthusiasts that like, appreciate and want them and are willing to put up with, even enjoy the downsides. ICE cars will never go away and i would be against any legislation that banned them for enthusiasts. And BTW - big misconception - Lithium mining is just about the most environmentally friendly mining as lithium is water-soluble, they pump hot water into boreholes and suck it back up and then electrolysis the lithium out of it. The used car batteries currently get used in grid storage systems, if they lose 30% of their charge capacity that's an issue for the car driver but not for grid storage companies. HOWEVER, the new Tesla 4680 cells have a life span of 1 million miles. Entire recycling industries are already set up WAITING for the influx of used batteries, its anticipated to be a hugely profitable industry - the problem is there are no unwanted 2nd hand batteries yet - trust me NO ONE is throwing lithium in a landfill - its a valuable metal. Cobalt is the element everyone freaks out about cos its basically only available in terrible places in the world where they use children to mine it - but the majority of batteries now contain either NO cobalt or trace amounts. You only need cobalt for high power things like Mod S Plaid, for your daily driver you can use iron instead of cobalt. Let me be clear- im NOT anti people having a hobby, if you want to drive and MGB or a E type or a R-34 or a Charger I fully understand and totally support that - Id quite like to own and drive one of them. But for day to day use I want an electric car. I love the styling of the old bakelite 1920's telephones - but I want an iPhone for day to day usage... What I most like about the electric cars is the form factor of the power train means that we can now have AMAZING looking cars again - Check out the Nobe 3 wheeler, the Aptera 3 wheeler - they are AMAZING... Yes - I want a 3 wheeler - why? cos its quirky
