@afauxican_american MOSTLY TRUE. Certainly true historically. But now many countries are now trading with each other in their OWN currencies. You need to watch Indian news channels or Al Jazeera for reporting on this - I think Richard Wolff covers it quite a lot. In 1980 the G7 was 75% of global GDP - its now 25% In 1980 BRICS was 10% of global GDP - its now 35% and it has increased 5% in 2 years...!!! And most of the BRICS countries are starting to trade in their own currencies, 1) to move away from the US and 2) cos no one wants to take over as the reserve currency cos it entangles you in SO many conflicts in order to maintain the currency The problem is, when you say "the world" as a Westerner what you are now really talking about is the G7 + a few little ones that =30% of Global GDP. Its no longer "the world". only western media still makes out it is - our horizons are shrinking every day... I once worked with a Polish cosmetics company in 2012 - they pulled out of the US market I said "WHY??? Why would you do that???" they said the US market is too small to bother making the packaging in imperial. "But its 330 million people". they said "YEAH and china and India are 2.8 BILLION people and most people can afford a €5 face cream" THAT is the reality of the world in 2023

HOW DO YOU THINK this looks internationally...?? Why would any country tie its economy and politics to America at this point??? Every year this fiasco gets worse and one day you WILL default and it will crash your economy - the 2008 crash taught the world, the closer you are aligned to America with your economy - the harder you will be hit when the f-uk it up - and they ALWAYS f-uk it up.

@afauxican_american YES - I agree. The USA is still a very dominant force - but my OP comment was saying effectively "This debt ceiling BS is just accelerating the move AWAY from reliance on the USA"

@afauxican_american - I dont have an opinion on that. I dont know enough about it to comment.

@afauxican_american - Oh I understand the term, I just don't know enough about the level it is at in the USA re the debt ceiling. But thank you for politely explaining.
