YES IT DOES make it burn more fuel. You have to burn fuel to transport fuel. If you transport 1000kg of extra fuel for 10000km that might use 50kg of fuel depending on the plane used.

@Martial-Mat _ I was going to use that exact analogy myself. This is why planes that CAN do a long trip none stop will often stop and refuel.

@Martial-Mat - They use different fuel calculations in America than they do in Europe due to the big average weight disparity. Putting it simply, its cheaper to fly European people than American cos they weigh less... 181 lb for an average American 156 lb for an average European - 25 lb difference. So a 747-400 full of Americans weighs 13,100 lb more than full of Europeans
