  3. @pinkroses - NO that's not a "solution". That is a "fix". People are not mentally ill in isolation, they are mentally ill as a response to the trauma they have suffered in life. The SOLUTION is to STOP traumatising people as a society. I know this is a radical and shocking idea in America as America is quite literally built on the foundational principle of horrifically traumatising people first as slaves and then as poor people, poverty is a sin to be punished in America. The country I live in has basically NO homeless people - we also have the lowest level of mental health problems in Europe. These things are DIRECTLY LINKED. Homelessness CAUSES mental health problems.

"We didn’t have homeless people when mental hospitals were still in tact." CLASSIC case of mistaking correlation and causation - you had mental hospitals because you had a more caring society and a better welfare state and affordable housing. You turned into an ultra selfish capitalist hell hole with unaffordable housing, no decent jobs, no affordable healthcare, almost no welfare state and OH MY GOD you have a homeless crisis, a drug addiction crisis and a mental health crisis - GOSH how did that happen. FYI - I'm a published author on psychology and the collapse of civilisations - this is quite literally my specialist subject and I am telling you - THIS IS A SOCIETY PROBLEM You - America - created this problem out of whole cloth through selfishness and greed. "they need a place to stay with medical professionals monitoring them and making sure they get the help they need. " On this, we can agree - and its not going to happen cos its expensive and these people are of no financial benefit to American society.
