My sister is a PhD in nutrition she won't eat or drink anything out of plastic. My friend is a material scientist in the garment industry she won't wear anything made out of synthetic materials. I'm just a random guy, but I think it's probably wise to follow their lead...

@jasonberner8614 - YEP - How Dupont poisoned the world... I have no idea what damage they are going to do to the world. Where I live in Bulgaria, the apartment block has 2 water meters, one is the normal mains water and one is for mineral water from an artesian well below the building. I'm hoping that this is not contaminated, but I can't be sure obviously.

@notnek202 - well no - low wages are being subsidized by artificially low costs of food. This was predicted 150 years ago by Karl Marx. People can't afford quality food packed in a sustainable healthy way means wages are too low means profits are too high means wealthy quality is a bad thing. The fact that we have chosen to design a completely f-cked up society, is not an excuse for the overuse of plastics. It was not too expensive in the 1940s, in the 1950s in the 1960s in the 1970s... When did wages stop rising in the 1980s

40 YEARS OF ROLLING BACK REGULATIONS appears to have reached breaking point whereby everything is collapsing at the same time. Slowly at first and then all of a sudden. So all of these things go, you can ignore them for so long, but you can't ignore them forever and every part of America has reached this tipping point.

@notnek202 - You missed the two biggest issues - one for and one against plastic. The amount of energy required to transport a glass bottle from a factory to a warehouse to a shop to your home, and all the way back again is vastly more than the energy required to transport a plastic bottle, and it's very often more oil used to transport the glass bottle, then used to make the plastic bottle. On the other hand, the plastic bottle is lowering your sperm count dramatically as it leeches, estrogen-mimicking chemicals into your food and that's a massive problem. The biggest issue which you did touch upon is the lack of decomposition. If you watch the series time team, they dig up a rubbish dump from the 1960s, that covers some archaeology, all the plastic is still there. Everything else is rotted away. Even the metal glass is broken into effective gravel, but the plastic is not touched. The land would be perfectly good for agriculture, but you can't plow it because it's full of plastic bags.

No, it's 40 years of rolling back regulations. They don't happen here in the EU where every year the regulations get tighter and tighter. America is obsessed with being the number one economy and you can't do that without lacks regulations.

@tralijntje1540 - here's a genuine thing you can do that. Will maybe shock you. Get the map of Trump supporting counties, get the map of lead pollution in water and compared the two. There is a freakishly high level of correlation. I'm not saying that one causes the other. But I'm saying the lead pollution is definitely in the disadvantaged disenfranchised areas which happened to be the area of the vote for Trump which happened to be the areas with generally very low IQs

@tomsenft7434 - We live in Europe so its way easier. I buy my vegetables loose from a greengrocer where they arrive in cardboard boxes, my meat from a butcher that grows and slaughters their own animals. My cheese is made by a little old lady who delivers it to the shop every morning in metal buckets. None of us drink carbonated drinks, so its not really very hard for us. Europe as a whole is way less "packaged" - even the supermarkets will put the food you want into your own glass container for you.
