Terrorism is a specific thing. It is the creation of TERROR in pursuit of a political or ideological goal. He specifically avoided terror by calling for the evacuation and no political or ideological motive has been identified.

@CasSUNdra - I am in no way pardoning or excusing the guy - I just believe that language MATTERS, truth MATTERS. I posted you the dictionary definition of terrorism - it is violence against civilians in pursuit of a political or ideological goal. In the same way the media calling gangs of armed white supremacist thugs "armed militia" is wrong and unacceptable. The incorrect use of terrorist is unacceptable. 98% of acts of mass violence in the USA are by right wing TERRORISTS and the media never call them out, the politicians never call them out - but that does not excuse sloppy use of the term cos THAT allows the right wing to POINT TO IT and legitimately argue the media is labelling acts of random violence "terrorism". YOU PLAY INTO THEIR HANDS IF YOU DO THIS...

Please direct me to the authority that has issued a statement about his motives. As far as I am aware - motive has yet to be determined.

@elsabean6791 - It is very clear you do not work in a scientific or legal profession. For all you know - he believed that at 6.30 am on Christmas day, if he blew himself up at that precise location - he would magically be transported on a unicorn to paradise and that it had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with "intimidate or coerce a civilian population" and that actually - the voices in his head told him to be absolutely sure that he hurt no one and did not scare anyone. YOU have NO IDEA what his motivation or intent was in driving to that location on that day. Correlation does NOT equal causation. Honestly, the standard of education in America is shocking.

@elsabean6791 - The fact he SAID he will be famous does not mean that IS his motivation. I will get wet in the rain in 5 minutes time when I go outside, that is a prediction that 100% will come true. But getting wet is not my motivation for going outside. I'm going outside to walk my dog. For all we know at this stage that was entirely a byproduct he knew would happen, or it might be his entire motivation. If being famous was his motivation then terrorising people was not his motivation. There have been plenty of suicide bombers who did it in the middle of nowhere - what are their names??? You don't know cos they are not famous. So that could be his motivation for driving to that spot. The spot could have been chosen that morning at random. Or it could have been years in the planning. It could be revenge for something that happened to his father. It could be that he believes AT&T are run by the devil or aliens. WE DONT KNOW. And at the heart of the definition of terrorism - Oxford or US Govt - is MOTIVATION. Until the motivation has been ascertained, we don't know. And you can not work backwards from the effects - as you are doing - to ascertain the motivation.
