  1. Happens all the time. When I was a kid a family friend worked at Leeds University as a professor, they got commissioned to do a safety report by a company one some environmental issue, turned out it was very unsafe, the company was furious and the prof got fired under some pretense to discredit the published paper. This is why the person sponsoring the research is WAY more important than the research results. If its a vested interest just ignore the paper.
