  3.  @elaeiffel  Like the guy who just commented said "All blades in the turbine are cast out of nickel based alloys including single crystal blades." the breakthrough at the time was casting titanium in single crystal. That said this was about 2004. So they may have dropped this, it may have been too difficult or too expensive or other materials were improved and made it unnecessary
