Having been in the hospital on IV many times for pancreatitis, I was struck by the fact that they usually use the vein in the elbow first, then the other elbow then the right hand then the left as the veins steadily get unusable. So if its at his left hand now they have used all 3 other sites i.e. he is getting a LOT of IV's
