  18.  @JB-bb4su  That’s not hypocrisy. Carbon emissions from oil are destroying organized human life on the planet as we know it. Right now the global economy is dependent on a product (oil) that is literally destroying the world. Every energy source has environmental impact, the impact of cobalt mining is much less bad than burning oil. You have no evidence that non carbon emitting sources are worse for the environment, that is something you just completely made up.

What does that have to do with getting off of fossil fuels before they make large parts of the planet unlivable? Firstly, solar farms aren’t the only way to generate solar energy. Solar panels can be put pretty much anywhere from roofs, to parking lots, to sidewalks. Secondly, solar isn’t the only source of renewable energy, there is also wind, hydro, biomass, and geothermal sources. Cities that are 100% renewable diversify there sources, they don’t just rely on one. Thirdly, solar plants already exist in places with flat land and they are more efficient in terms of cost and maintenance than oil/gas or nuclear power.

Air pollution itself already kills 7 million people per year, that’s without even factoring in the effects of global warming. We don’t need it and should do everything possible to get rid of it as soon as possible. We already have the technology to reduce carbon in the atmosphere, you said it yourself, it’s called trees/plants and limiting excess carbon. Thats a long term project we need to start on as fast as possible that starts with more carbon neutral energy sources and limiting deforestation. If we don’t do this, the effects of excess carbon in the atmosphere are going to be more devastating. Areas near the equator will become too hot to live, there will be water shortages, food shortages, and refugee crises the likes of which no one has ever seen.
