I've welded many times, and like the sun, your eyes experience discomfort if you stare at it.without a mask* Infact it was the last eclipse I used a welders mask to stare directly at the sun and it was awesome. My coworkers all refused because they thought their eyes would be damaged. I laughed at them. So, my point stands, so long as your eyes experience no discomfort you can stare at something

  3. My point is this, the people who are reporting having damage to their eyes must have been resisting some sort of discomfort, and prolonged exposure damaged their retna. If they experienced absolutely no discomfort, then they would have no damage.

  4. Nobody will ever convince me that looking at something that does not irritate the eyes will damage them. If your instinct tells you to look away, and you keep looking, that is different.
