  2.  @stephennoble2647  because you're getting less for your money, the reason they're using that engine is to save manufacturing costs. I have driven a 3 cylinder turbo engine, and it was a focus, i didn't like it very much, it had loads of turbo lag, in the end I bought the VAG equivalent which was a 4 cylinder, and was better in fuel and had way better performance low down in the rev range.
