  1. Fun fact about blood flow turbulence and that boundary layer issue. In a past job, we discovered that the rate of plaque build up in blood vessels was more likely when flow was more laminar. So, we developed a helical stent (stents are usually straight) for insertion into the artery to clear the plaque. This induced higher "skin friction" through turbulent flow. This reduced the rate of plaque reformation and the helical stent also helped the stent survive in more demanding compressive locations like the femoral artery. Super cool design.
