  8. Great response, but Assad isn't sovereign nor independent. The Syrian conflict has created a vacuum of which Russia has already filled. Turkey and Iran are setting up their small strong holds in Syria under the guise of cooperation but if Assad is taken out, there will be a visible power struggle to who will run Syria and gain its resources. Whoever has Syria, will have a regional hub to the oil and gas and a direct line to the treasure trove Israel claims off shore. We will see.
