  5. That music is more an expression of culture / lifestyle. It's tribal - and all tribal music is monotonous.

  6. 1) Most albums were just thrown together back in the day too - and sounded like it. Pick any great song from the 60s and 70s - outside the super groups like the Beatles and Queen and a few others - and it's almost invariably the only good song on that album. I dare anyone to listen to Toto's first album - for instance - and skip "Hold the Line". You'll soon want to commit suicide! Pick any Chicago album and you won't find more than one good song on it. 2) And still these beleaguered kids are doing some good things. The amazing thing is that they're doing anything good at all. Somehow they keep coming up with new ideas - in a genre that people say is out of ideas. Our pop music is still evolving. It hasn't become fossilized - like in 3rd world countries.

  8. Good point. You want to hear some REALLY awful stuff - dig into the infinite number of second-rate bands from the 60s and 70s. Now THAT is bad music. : (
