Their best song. And you have to be a real Queen fan to know it at all.
556
Definite candidate for Queen's best-ever song. I'd have no problem ranking it #1.
356
Who else would dare a song like this? ... It's still daring! o_O
54
GreenLightMe Highest screeched note maybe. Wouldn't call that note sung. : )
44
Gareth Owen An album of their best songs would be completely different from their Greatest Hits album.
44
And to think John Lennon called them rubbish. That's what drugs will do to your head. ... o_O
21
Exhibit B - "It's Late." And by then - the case is closed already. Court adjourned. : )
13
Loferix gaming Good ones. I'd rate "It's Late" #2. Not sure where I'd put your suggestions - but I'd put "Dragon Attack" ahead of them - somewhere in the middle of the pack of their best tracks.
11
Freddie In other words - just about every other song they ever recorded. : D
11
***** Yeah - there are a bunch of Queen songs that are just as enjoyable. But the deciding factor is the sheer technical genius of this piece. To me - "It's Late" is just as enjoyable a song - but still I give the nod to "March" because of its amazing structure and mind-blowing transitions. Nothing else like it! "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a step DOWN from this musical engineering feat.
9
***** Just played it for some young Japanese friends - and it knocked them out.
8
+Salma That's why I've done the choosing for you. Any other decisions you need me to make for you - just let me know.
6
Absolutely agree. But a lot of their best stuff is underrated. Ever hear "Dragon Attack"?
6
+Salma Then your favorite is not their best. Go stand in the corner with all the rest. 8 (
5
Freddie Go for it. I got my barf bag at the ready.
5
The Real Flash Gordon Killer Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody ... those songs didn't do it for me. But then they came out with "Tie Your Mother Down" - and I got into them fast.
4
Zeno Bonk If you were condemned to hear only ONE Queen song the rest of your life - and you had to live with that choice FOREVER ... which would it be? I recommend this one - because it's like every Queen song all smooshed into one. : )
4
+Carol I can live with that. But if you had to pick only ONE to take to a deserted island for the rest of your life? I think most KNOWLEDGEABLE Queen fans would pick this March - 'cos it's got in it EVERYTHING that band has. Name ANY Queen song - and you can find a bit of it in here. It's like all their albums crammed into one tune. Bon appétit! : D
3
+Thomas And now you're #2 to me. - Flush! ... Down you go. 8 (
3
+John De Thier Ha! - You must've seen some other comment of mine - where I rave about March. : D
3
Freddie Dang - it's like I've created sock accounts to talk to myself! 8 P
3
+Manuel Two of your top 5 make sense. o_O I don't think any of Queen's famous songs make even my top 10 list. And Rhapsody wouldn't make my top 20! O_o
3
+Dandymite NOW yer talkin'! At LAST a fan who can judge stuff right. Those are all worthy candidates. Three of those four - most haven't even heard of - and probably wouldn't know what to make of them if they did. SALUTE!
3
@thelasttimeitookashowerwas4881 All I know is - the other three wanted to sign Queen to Apple - but John said no and called them "rubbish". Maybe later he changed his mind or regretted the mistake.
3
regular guy This is what everyone realizes when they explore Queen. Each album - at least up to Jazz - is stuffed with incredible jaw-dropping music - no filler! Even their merest album track is a gem - better than most other band's hits!
2
Eugenia CAstro Don't tell people you're singing about a sadomasochistic orgy! ... what this best-ever song is unfortunately about. : )
2
+Host That's pretty bad. Flash Gordon - even worse. : ) But their best outnumbers their worst 10 to 1 - and only the Beatles got a ratio like that!
2
+Brian Well - you're talking to the KING of Queen fans here. And it's my Royal prerogative to name their two best songs - only AFTER which the hoi polloi are allowed to weigh in. : P
2
+cree Yes - ranking Queen songs is no joking matter. o_O
2
+Manuel Why? My taste is impeccable. Just trust it. : ) 1 - March of the Black Queen 2 - It's Late 3 thru 5 - here's where it becomes difficult. Dragon Attack is in there. She Makes Me - perhaps. Whew. ... I'm starting to sweat. o_O
2
+Manuel Well - if everyone agreed with me ... there'd be no arguing. : ) Lately - I've been wondering how high to rank "Get Down Make Love." That song has held up so well - it somehow sounds better today then it did when it first came out! It even sounds more daring somehow. I challenge any radio station to play it today. People will be driving off the road! - even those who remember it from back in the day. That song has gained in musical importance as the decades have passed. I don't think it was appreciated enough when it first came out. I still don't personally care for it much. But I respect in objective terms how well it has held up and only increased in power!
2
+Beat Lennon liked nothing until the B-52's came along. ( And for all the Davids out there - the "evidence" for that is readily available too! )
2
@ItsMrs.Marston So - eclectic pop. Freddie was always whining they were too rock. He'd have gone full-on LIza Minelli show-tunes if he'd had his way. What Queen ended up doing represented compromises by everyone. And the few times they really rocked out - it was kinda tongue-in-cheek. And on best-of guitarist lists - May is labeled pop - not rock.
2
What Queen song isn't? o_O
2
Almost A L L of Queen's best songs are by May.
2
Back in the day - it was like WHAT will Queen do NEXT?! Now it's all looking dated and sounding corny. ... I'm feeling depressed. : /
2
You want to hear a Queen song that has in fact ABSOLUTELY everything - check out "March of the Black Queen." It's a thousand times better than "Bohemian Rhapsody" - but so few have heard of it.
2
Recommend this song to someone who thinks Queen never did anything "heavy".
2
Agree. After The Game - they lost me. : /
2
@Daniela_Germany True. It can't be rated if it isn't known! Do you know about Kate Bush? If you like Queen's early stuff - you might like her early stuff even more.
2
@Daniela_Germany You haven't lived until you hear her song "Suspended in Gaffa". : D
2
@Daniela_Germany She's bonkers. Yes. : D
2
Always nice to have forgotten about some Queen song - and then be reminded of how good it is. : )
1
Loferix gaming Agree. Might even go so far as to say it's their last good song.
1
Loferix gaming After Freddie went Liza Minelli on us - I lost interest.
1
Riccardo Annoni At last! No argument. And for their second best song - I'd nominate "It's Late." Let the arguing begin! : D
1
***** What any other Queen song is - "March" is that and more.
1
+Host Flash is the second greatest movie if all the rest are tied for first. : )
1
+Brian A few more lame posts like these last few - and this thread WILL be unreadable! : D Their best song is this March - followed by It's Late - and only THEN is the debate up for grabs! : D
1
+sofia O God. ... 8 ( But at least we agree that May wrote MOST of Queen's best songs! 8 D
