@blackdragonwolve8317 It is a monopoly indeed that there aren't many competition for steam outside of companies selling their own games privately as Steam itself has made themselves as a brand for people to sell their products from, digitalising games itself makes them inaccessible and temporary not allowing you to own a permanent copy like a disk does In the past you didn't have to pay subscriptions every month to keep your game while you could have paid one time for a CD which many devices are removing it as to avoid people from keeping storage of their games permanently, there used to be many retail stores which promoted their brand while helping advertise physical copies for games but people aren't allowed to own permanent copies of the games they pay for nowadays theres a real reason why people resort to piracy especially when corporations don't seek to have an equal ground or give people equal opportunities to own games they pay for, piracy wouldn't have been a thing if corporations didn't stop us from having permanent ownership of the product we purchased or say have a large monopoly on the market as to leave other brands behind, a company can only have too much power till people start deciding they could rather get their products from third parties then pay subscription based services or say have only one brand been known It's been the same way even before digital marketing was a thing as instead of Steam there was GameStop which had a larger monopoly than other retail companies, things haven't changed but just made worse on purpose and people wonder why we resort to piracy again as we actually get what we pay for via paying the ISP and not just adding more fees from corporations who claim to provide us proper services but don't give us the services we pay for

@Gatrehs it's more like companies are resorting to purely subscriptions for digitalized versions of the games while steam is monopolizing smaller indie games more and having the same subscription based services too for larger games, they are no different than Epic games or other companies but they are more like an advertising platform for indie games, most people wouldn't check out any new indie games made unless they check it out on Steam which advertises for them there aren't many sites which do that as Steam has become more of a brand for people to advertise their products from, that brand obviously just like any other brand becomes huge enough and you get to where you are now
