Something to think about here is the Book of Job. Job was not a Jew, according to tradition. He was just a human being. I’m not sure you can turn a blind eye to this. God’s project is humanity, but even more than this, the entire Cosmos. As an Orthodox Christian, I struggle too with exclusivity of the Church, but even Kallistos Ware says that the Orthodox Church doesn’t claim that people outside of the Church aren’t Christians. He doesn’t specify other Christian denominations, interestingly. St. Paul also addresses this in his sermon on Mars Hill, I believe. A sweeping perennialism is not on the table for me, believers are called to holiness, but that being said, we also have to deal with the fact that “every knee will bow (voluntarily) and every tongue will confess (voluntarily)……” This is definitely a discussion that needs a lot of finesse, but well worth having in my opinion.
