The Geo-political aspect of the Pacific is relevant Since it was "Europe first", then the US could run the Pacific war single handed, without having to make many concessions to the british, french or even the dutch. Also, the US had clear that the objective was to beat Japan, not recover Singapore, Malaysia or Java. Even retaking the Phillipines was weighed against reaching Japan.
