Maybe. But it is a pretty good joke.

10:20 it is incredible how much that looks like the VW bare bones 13:59 "not chasing speed" This is a key concept. It is a good fun ride, but average Joe is not a qualified racing driver, just wants to have a good (enough) time in a fast (enough) car Cost, simplicity, absolute relieability make this market overlap with a lot of high end comfy moyorcycles.

Tesla pranked Ford. Just announcing the Cybertruck years ago sent Ford scrambling to produce an electric Pickup. Tesla may not "know" what a pickup is, or what the pickup customer wants...but Ford does.

Why no Trackhawk?

I hear you. And it is not meant to do truck work. The Cybertruck objective is to scare Ford. Forcing Ford to make a propper EV pickup is the best prank ever played.

@andylucas5770 That would have been another way. But not radical enough. Also, consider that maybe Tesla left Rivian alone so that it could be Ford's "plan b"

@pryme2013 they're not scared anymore. But Ford GOT scared into producing the Lightning. And yes, you are right. Ford knows how to make pickups, they know the customer, they now the market, they have the volume...only a slight pat in the rear sent them down the EV path. Respectfully.

Solid content I can see Soichiro thinking he was getting old, wanting something a little more comfortable than a motorcyle, but equally intoxicating and fast. The government just pushed his timeline. Intrigued about the body design. The Tunderbird-like grill and lights mean anything? Who designed the body? The tail-lights look generic, pulled out of the parts bin, taken from the rear of a dump truck. It is surprisingly simple and pleasing to look at.

Spot on comment. The move to electric (smaller, lighter, quieter) is an unexploited niche Imagine a four wheel "motrocycle" without any tune up of maintenance quirks, just for lazy Sunday driving...and then leave it charging for the entire workweek. Never a tune up, never an oil change.
