I also have the impression that she was running astern. In some of the videos you can see that they it was going so fast that it made a "sternwave", for lack of a better word.

3:30 Boat1: Hey. #49, we will turn left to get out of your way. Ok with ya? Boat2: Hey #92. Cool, thanks! This tub of rust turns like a fat pig. We will also turn left. Appreciate it, bro. Media: US Navy playing chicken with multi-million dollar ships in daring display of hubris. 😱 ======== 5:00 to 5;20 Did the Harper's Ferry use a bow thruster to mantain alignment? There is a wake coming off the bow towards the bouy.

18:50 The departure time is related to the dressing of the ship, the lights and the PR requirements of this kind of mission As stated in 3:50, "docked bow in". There are considerations here for "highlight" and show. So the conflicting goals between safety and PR are undeniable. As for the engine test, condition, maintenance schedule and resources... we will have to wait and see.

This is a very ambitious project. Amphibious landings were hard. In today's battle environment, they are extremely hard. The focus seems unclear, there is no need for a large vessel that can support troops for a month if the mission is to shoot and scoot.

-There is not enough water! There is a drought! -Should we build new dams or expand the existing dams? -Noooo... just raise the prices and auction of slots -When private concerns do this you call it "predatory pricing"! -Yeah...but when government does it we call it "the greater good"

If it can't dodge a 600ft, 53000 ton slow boat, how will it dodge a 40 knot torpedo?

This is really funny.

Governments will use any tragedy to extend their reach.

This must result in redundancy requirements. There are too many single points of failure: single shaft, single engine, single rudder, single power distribution board. Interestingly enough, this is somewhat mitigated in proper steamships, because there is a large amount of steam and heat to keep the screw turning even during an electric blackout. Diesel engines have no equivalent to this buffer. The inmediate fix is to have a tug alongside and another one with a tow line up front until clearing all obstacles. But I can understand that gets expensive, complicated, and creates new risks of it's own.

Notice: Sailed past all the european "powers", including France, Spain, UK. They all looked the other way

25:50 it looks like it lost electric power for a third time when it collided

This is a thorny one. The bottom line for me is this: freedom of the seas can no longer be taken for granted in a "muti-polar" world. For centuries the Royal navy was the ultimate arbitrer of these things, then the USN took the mantle. But the US is no longer interested in being world cop
