  1. 25:45 "... pilots attempted to manually crank the stabilizers... " This is another known issue with the 737 family. The manual trim wheel cannot be turned by hand at high speed/high stabilizer deflections. So when the pilots cut off the electric trim motor 25:30 , they stoped the problem from getting worse... but also made extremely difficult to adjust the trim. This also had the effect of confusing the pilots. Since they had no knowledge of MCAS, they believed they had a trim-runaway problem. The fine details of this are all over the internet. ============== From another forum (you can google it) From the 737 NG FCOM (9.20.8 Flight Controls - System Description - Stabilizer Trim, emphasis mine): Excessive airloads on the stabilizer may require effort by both pilots to correct the mis-trim. In extreme cases it may be necessary to aerodynamically relieve the airloads to allow manual trimming. Accelerate or decelerate towards the in-trim speed while attempting to trim manually.
