12:33 when even the french are calling you "clumsy and bureaucractic" ...you know you are in trouble.

George Lucas surely saw this thing.

Drones laser designators + Loitering munitions + GLSDB = everything and anything the A10 did or does Faster response time, organic control at company level, less risk to CAS and spotter pilots, less risk of blue on blue.
17
Yep
12
"guns or butter?" question has been answered

What strikes me odd is that it has no Sidewinder, and not even a 20mm gun Noticeable. Cheers!!!!

Swarms of these things with heat seekers. Stuff of nightmares. Call them winged monkeys..."fly my pretties...fly" 🐒

I confess I am amused by this development.

@bullpupgaming708 the SDB GBU39 is also launched from the A10. So the blast radius is the same. What is your point?

We will study this operation for decades to come. The feint, the misdirection, the intel gathering✅ Setting the objective in the railways ✅ The execution in dispersed formations, negating concentrated targets to artillery✅ The use of local knowledge and supportive population✅ Negating air superiority over the theater.✅ There is one thing missing: where are the prisioners ? Where are the images of the soldiers surrendering or walking? Too much equipment, too little POWs. Little fuel and few trucks for logistics should result in NO fuel and NO trucks for retreating infantry. 70 Km is a long walk.

The only people concerned by this are politicians Let them live in fear, or leave office
5
Soviet collapse was no excuse for aiming low, or making ugly aircraft. 👍
4
The OV10 is now a COIN rather than a CAS asset

6:10 "took a couple of years to occur" respectfully disagree. Patton wanted to take Moscow, and Churchill wanted it nuked. Some people were squaring off for the cold war even before Vday Europe. I do grant that this would be a millitarily impossibility. You do NOT want to pick a fight against the red army in May 1945. What took two years to occur (on both sides of the iron curtain) was changing public's hate from one enemy to another. "eurasia has always been at war with Oceania" kind of thing. regards

60s Test pilots were either fools, brave, or both at the same time.

This is a significant development. Maybe on par with the Gatling gun

So many times the engine power limits were "solved" by going from one to two engines
2
Heavier, slower, shorter ranged.. the ANTI Zero
2
Government doing government things.

It cannot be ruled out that they may end up as fixed pillboxes in a fortified line. Without clear air superiority, the war in Ukraine will drag onto a Verdun style meatgrinder with inmovable trenches
2
@awatt ji ji ji 👍
2
@thelandofnod123 to be fair, when the A10 debuted, it was the "shark with brrr gun on it's head"
2
High tempo operations to recapture territory would be an inferior solution to a negotiated ceasefire right now. Rusia did not take Kiev (much to old to learn new spellings, sorry), and Ukraine proved it can stalemate them.
2
@petesheppard1709 Complete agreement. Regards.

COIN and CAS coming back with vengance. Still ugly, can't say they improved the look. Would have to see the IR signature of this thing before making an opinion

@terrynewsome6698 I have seen the videos, small groups here and there. I expect something larger, with political impact. 🤞
1
@MM22966 I agree, you don't need a lot of trucks. But the story is that they had next to NO trucks at all. IF they DID have trucks, then performance is even worse ,because they had been supplied.
1
@MM22966 Not sure what happened, that (pulled units) is a better explanation than most of what is going around. 👍 Regards.

The Emu - Cat alliance will soon rule the world.

The problem with "COIN" is that counter-insurgency is, by definition, government arming itself to kill it's own citizens That is why the sales brochure of COIN has to include such missions as drug interdiction, police work, SARs, disaster relief(🙄) to shift the attention from the fact that it is being purchased to use violence for political purposes
1
it's so funny that they claim current western aircraft are outclassed by their eqipment, but then also claim that prior generation western aircraft going into retirement are a "dangerous escalation" 🤷

Happy to see the market of MBTs shaking and moving.

There is got to be a "pull my finger" joke in this story.
1
@gort8203 yep. 👍

The "one second" is the key parameter, because it can be overwhelmed with a swarm On the other hand, targeting with radar will expose the system and bring faster/larger/more lethal attention (Artillery, HARMs) Cheap drones are a fundamental shift in warfare. A Gatling gun moment

0:20 "safe to shoot down" = "wreckage in the ocean and chinese hardware not exposed"

It is surprising to me how much these news are the same we saw in the late 70s

@ChucksSEADnDEAD Fair point. 👍

Strong A10 vibes.

Not good news

A tank Someone develops a tank hunter-killer Then develop a helicopter tank hunter-killer Later develop a (helicopter tank hunter-killer) - killer aircraft And that resulted in manPADS A lot like the bugs bunny chase movie https://youtu.be/miM4N9jYgCk?t=150
1
"replacing the C130" The arrogance, the hubris.
1
The future is small, heavy arnoured, stealth, low signature manned comand and control tanks directing standoff weapons, specially artillery shells.

@jimtaylor294 There is always uncertainty when making predictions. 👍
