  2. People that buy originals want to keep them pristine, going as far as not using them at all! People that buy replicas want to use them amd tinker with them. It's a replica, no biggie. The legal and liability issues of selling firearms to people that WILL modify them is unbearable.

They are little windows into the personal, bureaucratic, organizational, archival, and political situation along the years. Historians are falible. Recording these inaccuracies makes for happy little accidents that remind us of that. Authors and readers alike will benefit from this remainder.
