The "optimal" alarm type depends on what is the most likely fire hazard . If you have a shop with volatile solvents, or you store flammables, you cook with a kerosene stove, the flames will be quick and ionization is the "better" one. If you have stored lots of paper, cloths and other materials that are prone to smouldering, low voltage/ low power electric components that may burn slowly (server farms? crypto mining?) .. then choose the optical. Homes are usually closer to the solid fuel smoldering risk. So based on the RISK the opticals are ahead? How would (future) battery banks fit in this risk asessment? Cheers

Yes... and competition between automakers allows for natural selection of the better designs, and the bad designs fall to the wayside Governments suck MORE at it? Without a doubt. And laws are not subject to competition. Bad law stays on the books for way longer than poor design stays on the road. The solution, as always, is "caveat emptor". Buyer beware. Informed, empowered customers will tell the automakers what designs are the safer/better/favored ones. I applaud that this channel is making it's contribution to inform the public and the buyers. 👍 I cannot accept the call for government intervention. 👎

The push towards electrification will create a dependency relation between the citizen and the government controlled power grid A government that can exert direct pressure on the citizen for a survival item is not something I would like.

The shift from candles to gas lights, and then to electric light bulbs, had similar discussions and opposition If heat (cooling) is the largest draw, and the water heater already proves heat energy can be stored efficiently with minimal losses... maybe it is time to think out of the electric domain. Insulated phase change tanks can store heat. They are cheap, have no moving parts, insulation is well understood and are not pressure vessels. Instead of going to an "emergency" resistive strip, you draw heat from the insulated tank. Any heat loss from the insulated tank actually is lost to the space inside the insulation envelope, so it is not "lost", just released slowly.

Fancy optical corrections can be incorporated to the dome, the parabolic shell, and the bulb itself for different use cases. ------>> Best of four worlds: chemical stability of glass, interchangable cheap bulbs, part standarization and less plastic use.
