Also needless to mention, with Mars there is problem of way too low gravity, which may prevent human gestation or make all people born there very sick. Only psychopaths would go and willingly reproduce on planetary bodies with less than 1/2 Earth's gravity

  15.  @danzephyr2797  nonsense, we survived pretty well for 300 thousand years on one planet, and most of that time without any advanced technology. We don't need to massively inhabit multiple planets to survive. What we really need is to stop destroying the biosphere on the one planet we need, plus have technology to quickly get away in case if something happens, like an asteroid, and wait for some time in space until conditions on Earth become well again. Also, if most people on Earth die in case something happens, I don't care if "at least some humans survived" on Mars or whatever. What is important is for individual humans to live well and avoid suffering, not for "at least someone to survive"

And it still is not working, properly and safely. Those other things you mentioned were realised in a reasonable time frame after they were first proposed and tried. So stop thinking by analogy. Simply because in some cases peoplewere skeptical, but the concept worked does NOT mean every concept people are skeptical about will necessarily work. Or, by this "logic", "solar roadways" would work too 😂

There are crazy predictions nowadays too, like Ray Kurzweil in his existential anxiety first predicted that we will reach technological singularity and all become immortal by uploading ourselves into computers by 2045, but then claimed it will happen by 2029-2030. Probably, he realised his chances to survive to 2045 were low, hence the update. Yet many believe everything he says, because he is really a smart inventor. As if smart people and experts never made mistakes or never fell into ridiculous beliefs...

Humans don't want to live in large numbers even in Antarctic and most of Greenland, which still are tropical paradises compared to Mars, so even if going to live on Mars was possible now, only few would go to live permanently, and some would be so dissapointed because of extreme number of difficulties, that they would go back in a year or two. And terraforming? That would take at least a millenium. By that time, considering trends of birth rates everywhere, human population will long pass its peak, decline, and be even less than it is now. One planet will be enough for that population. Or some psychopaths would suggest making people go to Mars soon against their will or make people reproduce more in the future against their will? Just in order to make what they (a restricted group of people, who love idea of colonizing space more than they love their mom) want to happen?
