@CharlesBosse mass colonization of either would be a total waste of effort and resources. Human population will soon stop growing. Minor scientific and mining outposts should be enough. Also needless to mention, with Mars there is problem of way too low gravity, which may prevent human gestation or make all people born there very sick. Only psychopaths would go and willingly reproduce on planetary bodies with less than 1/2 Earth's gravity

@danzephyr2797 nonsense, we survived pretty well for 300 thousand years on one planet, and most of that time without any advanced technology. We don't need to massively inhabit multiple planets to survive. What we really need is to stop destroying the biosphere on the one planet we need, plus have technology to quickly get away in case if something happens, like an asteroid, and wait for some time in space until conditions on Earth become well again. Also, if most people on Earth die in case something happens, I don't care if "at least some humans survived" on Mars or whatever. What is important is for individual humans to live well and avoid suffering, not for "at least someone to survive"
