  9. I study in SPbU, and I still live in dormitory being a 27-year old PhD student. I started living in dorms at 16. I had 2 gap years in between though, when I went back to my hometown. But yeah, almost 11 years living mostly in dorms. I have lived in 5 different ones. Current one probably has the best conditions of them all. My dorm is around 60$ a year

Israel's national idea was based around "we were the victims of n--sm" and this could give them the same idea that they "could do no wrong". When a person or a group start believing that they can do no wrong, they commit the worst crimes

  21.  @vainezas  The situation in Russia now and Ukraine in 2014 is very different, as situation in the USSR was different between 1970s and 1989. SO you are not comparing similar things. You don't know,see and feel the situation here. I get it, it is hard to understand for someone who lives somewhere else about all the nuances and WHY it is hard to "just unite and go on the streets". But then don't talk about what you don't understand. Also mind that people who do support Putin are as numerous as the ones who don't, and all those who have ANY money and power are on his side. It also wouldn't even progress to 1% population entering the streets at the same time. That needs to be coordinated, and the FSB would put a stop to it long before any crowds on the street. Again what is even your suggestion to a single person like me? If I go protest, I get arrested immediately before even 1 person oins me. If I attempt to coordinate protest before hand to many people, I would get arrested even before we can go. What is a viable solution? Again, it is like you don't get that we anti-Putin Russians are not a hivemind, and can't just immediately put an idea into the heads of others and each other

  24. I am from Russia, and still in Russia, and not planning to leave. I can say I don't approve of generalizing all Russians, but here in Russia there are so many people who at the same time whine when they are generalized, for example when EU restricts certain right of all Russian citizens, but have no problem generalising other people from other countries, like supporting banning all immigrants from Russian schools, just because some of them act badly

Again, if you don't see the difference between Lithuania in the end of 1980s and Lithuania in 1960s-1970s you would be delusional. Same with Ukraine and Russia

  31. In the regions with other titular nations they were preferred, in regions with no other titular nations Russians were preferred. For example, being an ethnic Finn in Leningrad region or in republic of Karelia would be a totally different experience. Some of them even had been listed as ethnic Russian in IDs against their will in Leningrad region. One Inkeri Finnish actress told a story like that. "This is Leningrad region, here Russians live" the woman in a passport office told her. All that applies mostly to RSFSR, btw, different parts of it

USSR never even had communism, they didn't even claim to, they claimed they had "advanced socialism" and the party constantly promised to build communism by certain date. What about time periods, Civil war and Stalinism were worse, but duh, war, and Stalin was very reactionary. The late USSR, after Stalin's death, was much better than Russia before the revolution

Those dachas are far from cities and jobs, many have very old houses, and located in settlements, which don't have permanent water supply and central heating cause those dacha settlements were made specifically for summer habitation and gardening not for permanent living. In our dacha, for example, the house is heated with small incredibly old fireplace, like ones which existed in old old trains (my grandpa worked on railway and brought one when it stopped being used there), so we need wood for heating, and the house is old and badly constructed, so it is warm enough to live only in the summer, and sometimes not even the whole summer, plus in the winter the only water supply is the well, and the year-round store is far away, and the railway station is far away and the city is even further away... Well, you get the point

  50. And actually there are laws that prevent nowadays gays from adopting in Russia. It is not something that should be written right into the constitution, there are separate laws. Now they seem to want to write everything in the constitution itself 🤦 As long as most population in Russia is more or less homophobic, laws won't change, it is not like suddenly gays will be able to adopt for no reason. Only if most of the population becomes accepting of it, then laws will change, and then the remaining homophobes basically will be terrified too, but it is not like they will have right to dictate to the rest of people
