  1. Not only in the modern society people who are less intelligent can be as successful as more intelligent ones, actually less intelligent people are more evolutionary successful now. They tend to breed more, and in many complex skcieties ruling elite actually doesnt want people to be smart, they encourage ones who are silly enough to follow any of elite's rules and orders. And smart ones, who see the corrupt elite and its real aims, are "dissidents", which have usually a bad fate. Thus, since birth of complex societies intelligence could really decrease. As a hunter-gatherer peson has to do multiple tasks, otherwise he would be dead. In complex societies each person can specialise on one specific task, so even people who are not intelligent enough to do multiple tasks, still can live and breed successfully. Plus modern medicine allows people with mutations to survive and breed. Plus ruling elite, including government and churches, encourages stupid sheepy followers to breed more, and suppresses free thought of smarter individuals.
