@southcoastinventors6583 space colonisation on a large scale is not practical, and won't be, no matter what technology they develop. Especially if the biosphere on Earth is destabilised enough and can't sustain civilisation here anymore, it will stop the opportunity for new technology development or any resources being used to go to space. So... Priorities duh

If the humanity was totally gone, that would save the Earth. Because the civilisation is an ultimate danger factor which can slide back into destruction at any point of time. So only without it can biosphere normally live

@lostsauce0 "civilisations" are probably a very specific and rare thing, not something universal. Like anthills for ants, civilisations - for humans. So other species who are so similar to us that they do the same things are probably insanely rare and won't ever contact us. Humans tend to overestimate importance of "civilisations" and underestimate everything else because we are arrogant and think that traits which on this planet are unique to humans make us better and more important than all other life forms

Humanity has been destroying biodiversity since the ice age, even long before agriculture, and long long long before industry and capitalism. Interesting question: who hunted moa to extinction? Hint: not Europeans

@dontmisunderstand6041 there is no such thing as superiority. Humans also are not superior to other animal species, which just have different set of abilities form them. Different is not superior or inferior. How can someone who thinks the superiority is real, even talk about morality. I wouldn't trust you to make judgement on morality at all

@Raziel312 the ideology of endless expansion which comes from colonisation (even of barren places) makes sure that people don't want to move on to more sustainable living practices. Because why preserve anything when you can endlessly expand your "life space" and amount of resources available. Thankfully in real world colonisation of other planets is many times harder than Musk and co imagine it, and that means that humanity will be forced to transition to more sustainable living instead of endlessly expanding

@kyle857 if there will be people, they will be exploited by corporations under current system. Look "The Expanse": The belters also one day came from Earth, but now they can't go back and make the extent their problems known to those who live on Earth. And they are exploited worse than our modern cheap labor is

If people are settled somewhere they can be exploited in the future by corporations etc. Look at the belters in the "Expanse". That is exactly how human colonists on other planets would end up under capitalism. Adjusted to lower gravity and thus cannot go back to Earth even for a moment, and cannot make their problems known to people on Earth

You overestimate the probability that space colonisation is even practically possible at all. Not technically, practically. Also, the more people there are, the more people are there to suffer. And the more they will exploit other species of living beings.
