We shouldn't view future generations as being obliged to fix the mess we are creating for them. That is simply sadistic to bring someone into the world so that they be forced to fix problems we create for their whole lives
56
Considering how much child abuse there is in the world, humanity doesn't really deserve any children until we fix this problem
54
Noone "should" have children. If a person doesn't want to have children for any reason, that is enough to not have any children
27
Basically belief that our kids that didn't create this mess, have the responsibility to fix it, and not we ourselves. That is the most selfish idea!
18
Life worth starting and life worth continuing are different things
12
@MrBazBake Almost as if life worth starting and life worth continuing are two very different things
12
Every decision to reproduce is a gamble on another person's well-being. It is always ethically questionable

Economy can be changed. Economic system which relies on endless growth of both consumption and population is going to destroy us all in the long run!
5
@jericho_shepherd All humans are 99.9% genetically similar Adopted kids will be almost as much genetically similar to you as biological ones
4
Lucky that your kids didn't get severe mental illness or terminal illness. People never think of those risks before they have kids. But they should. It will help them prepare for such risks at least
4
@floaty cloud stop looking at the mirror and talking to yourself

You don't take into account that the risk of your children falling into severe depression is always non-zero. And then they will suffer a lot. You don't have to have a depression yourself to understand that even 1% of such risk shouldn't be worth taking on behalf of another human being, who hasn't asked for it! And judging by actual data, many more than 1% people have serious mental illness chronic illness or disability! It is also pretty awful to think that just because you can still think of life as a gift in a hard situation, then anyone, including your kids, will feel or should feel the same. Not everyone has mental strength or proper neurotransmitter balance to deal with such situation without suffering too much. All your idea that the risk is worth taking is based on the false assumption that your kids will necessarily feel the similar way

There is difference between life worth starting and life worth continuing. Also, when you decide whether to die or not, you are making a decision for yourself. When you decide to reproduce - for others, future children. They can't decide anything in that situation Nihilism sees no values. Anti-natalism sees value in reducing risk of suffering. If cannot see the difference, you know nothing of what both mean. Don't believe that on most people desire to die comes from hopelessness. It comes from mental illness in most cases. By promoting idea that people should just change their ideas, and their despair will go away, you misundertand how it works for most people

Stay strong. I wish society helped people like you more. But we live in terrible times
3
Wishful thinking never dies
2
Forcing someone into existence they didn't choose so that they help someone else is terrible idea. How about going and just helping already existing people yourself? Responsibility should come after choice. You have no right to assign responsibility of helping others to your kids, they didn't choose it themselves
2
Whole biosphere is more important than one species. Also, yeah, actually species can be saved if reproduction is temporarily restricted in some cases. Like when too big of a population causes problems. So technically it is not a contradiction all the times
2
New generations of people shouldn't be used to supply us with hope. We create the mess then make kids to provide ourselves with "hope" and make them responsible for fixing our mess? Sounds selfish to me
2
@SleepyMatt-zzz if only most pro-natalist people realised they are even more selfish
1
No, you are incorrect. Anti-natalism is a serious philosophy, and you should try harder to address its arguments instead of engaging in ad-hominem attacks like "you're just all angsty teens". Also, realise already, that depression in teens is a real mental illness and they need professional help, not being mocked as "angsty"

The greedy billionaires will take it all. They already own as much as half of human population and they want more
1
Your country should reduce its birth rate 2 times anyway
